Historien divergerer litt p\u00e5 n\u00f8yaktig hvordan Laennec konstruerte nyvinningen, men det ble tidlig klart at de akustiske egenskapene ved bruk av r\u00f8ret forbedret Laennecs evne til \u00e5 h\u00f8re vitale hjerte- og lungelyder betydelig. Camman fra New York det f\u00f8rste stetoskopet med en \u00f8repropp til hvert \u00f8re. Klinikere som tar seg tid til \u00e5 l\u00e6re og praktisere auskultasjon, bel\u00f8nnes med en verdifull ferdighet som hjelper dem \u00e5 foreta raske vurderinger, diagnoser og til \u00e5 overv\u00e5ke pasientene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bruken av stetoskop gir en lege eller sykepleier tillatelse til \u00e5 \u00abber\u00f8re\u00bb en pasient uten egentlig \u00e5 ta p\u00e5 dem.
